both/and

There is nowhere in the world like this island when the sun shines, nowhere at all. I like to think it is something to do with the duality, the polarity of this place. When it's mid January, raining sideways and freezing cold it is impossible to imagine that one day you might wear shorts again. On a long day like today, with warm sunshine, birds singing and a gentle breeze, it is hard to imagine the howling wind in the dark at 4PM. It forces presence. It's why we all go to the beach given half a chance- you have to make the most of it.

Because who knows how long this will last? The beauty or the difficulty... both will pass, both will fade with time. The cycle of our seasons are still (for now) a reminder of this- to enjoy the ease and good times when they come and to hold on in the darkness
